As important as it is to coat kids with sunscreen, applying it to a wriggly, wiggly baby or toddler’s scalp, ears and face can be nearly impossible. This is one reason I never leave home without a hat for my little ones. Although the look hasn’t changed much over the years, protective sun hats for kids have come a long way in terms of fabrication. Many are made from sun-blocking fabrics that can boast up to a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) of 50, which allows only 1/50th of the sun’s rays to penetrate through.
