Sweet and stylish totes of summer

0
0

One of my favorite bags to carry is a tote bag. It carries so much stuff…especially if you have kids in tow. For summer, I love switching out whatever purse I’m carrying in favor of a tote bag that will hold snacks, books, toys, sunscreen and all the daily essentials of life with three kids in tow. Whether you prefer to go with something classic and sleek like a leather tote or something that just screams “summer” like a straw tote, either way you’ll be right on trend for the coming season.

Save the bees with five charitable finds

Of all the wonderful experiences in my life, one of the greatest has to be growing up with a beekeeping grandfather. I saw firsthand the benefit of bees through the lush flowers, delicious fruits and vegetables, and sweet honey. Because these amazing insects are disappearing quickly, I am passionate about doing my part to save the bees. As always, one of my favorite ways to donate is through the purchase of charitable products. Both J. Crew and Chantecaille have partnered with U.S.- and U.K.-based charities to create delightful tees, socks and make-up palettes to help save the bees. In sizes and styles for men, women and kids, these products will help the family look great while making a difference.

I’m sure I can’t be the only one counting down the days until summer officially begins and of course with summer, comes the endless days of sunshine. With sunshine comes the heat and sometimes it’s hard to stay stylish with record temps. This summer be prepared to keep cool and stylish in outfits that are made with linen fabric which is light and breathable against the skin. Coming in everything from casual drawstring pants to dresses that can be worn for work or play, you’ll have plenty of linen looks to choose from this summer and here’s a few favorites.

In the buff: nude nail polish is trending for summer

If you’re still searching for your signature summer 2015 mani/pedi polish color, look to your own natural nails. Nude nail polish is a huge trend, and–truth be told–it’s such an easy color to wear that practically anyone can do it. Unlike winter’s dark polishes, where moisturizing and perfect grooming is key, nude polishes look pretty great even when you don’t have time a lot of time. For those of us who are super fair, nude nail polishes have the added benefit of making hands exude a healthy glow without sunless tanner. Pick a shade that matches your real nail bed or go a shade lighter or darker. You literally can’t go wrong with this easy-breezy look.

Must-have maxi dresses for summer

I don’t know one woman that looks bad in a maxi dress. It’s one of the most versatile pieces you can own and they can be worn super casual as a beach cover-up to date night. This summer the maxi is back on trend and it’s the perfect companion for any summer vacation you have planned whether you’re headed to the city, beach or a European art tour. Pair with a jean jacket and sandals for a casual day-time look or wedges and a clutch for an evening out and you’ll never be out of style this season.

Add texture to your wardrobe with mesh accents

If the word “mesh” conjures up thoughts of ’80s fashion and breathable exercise shorts, it’s time to turn your attention to summer’s textural trend. Mesh accents–overlays or insets–are everywhere. The kicker is that this season’s mesh accents are worlds away from retro or athletic. Ladylike, edgy and (well, okay) sporty are all aesthetics you can create with this breezy textured design. And if you’re looking for even more impact, choose a monochromatic or black/white color scheme. Simple, easy and perfect for summer.

Hatch X The Glow sleepers to support Every Mother Counts

Aside from the obvious positive (a precious new child), pregnancy was never one of my favorite states. The extra weight, the aches and pains…I was always looking for something to make it better. Oddly enough, pretty sleepwear made a world of difference. Falling asleep and waking in something comfortable and pretty made me feel pretty, which is why I love the new Hatch X The Glow Sleepers collaboration. Perfect for summertime, both The Nightie and The Sleeper Set are soft and lightweight. Even better, the designs are made to skim the body beautifully. Best of all, through the end of May, Hatch Collection will donate a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the Sleepers collection to Every Mother Counts.

Surf’s up: rash guards for your activity-packed summer

It wasn’t surfing but rather having kids that brought me around to rash guards. The extra coverage is perfect for playing at the beach or pool (no wardrobe malfunctions), plus it means a little extra protection from the sun. Of course you can’t discount the post-baby pooch-hiding abilities of full coverage styles either. Thankfully, rash guards are still a huge trend for summer 2015. Sleeveless, cropped or ruched, as the styles featured below show, there’s a rash guard style for every body type.

Closed-toe sandals for kids

If you’ve been preparing your kids for summer camp or daycare, you’ve probably been warned that open-toe shoes are a no-no. From a safety standpoint it makes sense, but where’s the fun in sneakers and socks on the hottest days of the year? Closed-toe sandals for kids are the answer. With varying amounts of coverage, airy styles like the ones featured below (usually) meet summertime dress code standards while still keeping little ones cool. And since most styles are water- and slip-resistant, they’re also fantastic for splash pads and family hikes.

Kids’ travel journals to document summer fun

0

When I began traveling extensively with my own children, a friend suggested that I buy kids’ travel journals for each trip. It was genius! My 6-year-old loves packing her journal everywhere she goes, drawing pictures, writing down memories and (later) adding photographs. When we’re stuck in the car or plane, or when we’re trying to eek out extra time at dinner, we pull out the journal and let her fill in highlights from the day. Besides the educational and entertainment aspects, kids’ travel journals are also perfect for recording the small-but-important events that are all too easy to forget.

Hats off to summer

As great as it is to be summer, it’s also hard to keep your skin out of the sun’s harmful rays. The most sensitive skin on your body, your face, can easily be protected from a day in the sun with a stylish hat. From a Panama hat to a fedora to a floppy hat, pick your favorite style and wear it this summer season to protect your face from the sun which can cause sun spots and wrinkles among many other things.

Beachy flamingo-themed styles are a no-brainer, but you’ll also love adding subtle flamingo printed pocket squares or mini charms for days at the office.
