It may just be the beginning of Fall, but New York is already buzzing about what's hot for Spring as NY Fashion Week hit Lincoln Center on September 8. Here are a few highlights from some of the best shows from Day 6:

J CREW

We've come a long way in terms of making fashion accessible so it's only fitting that J. Crew would present their Spring 2012 collection, for the first time, at Lincoln Center. In a nod to the retailer's influence, Beyonce attended the presentation with her sister Solange along with a slew of glossy editors. While the collection didn't include anything groundbreaking it was brimming with the kind of wide-appealing, closet staples that head of women's design Marissa Webb has repeatedly proven she can master.

TORY BURCH

Considering the success of Tory Burch's brand, it's easy to forget that the designer has never shown a full runway presentation. It's proof that the circus that we call fashion week is somewhat pointless because the CFDA winner and accessory queen has built a global brand without a media storm-inducing show. Nevertheless, Burch's foray onto the runway was successful as her collection's 20s influences and soft ladylike silhouettes are sure to be big sellers come spring. The drop waist, an emerging trend much to the dismay of curvy women everywhere, was a key trend.

MARCHESA

In the ultra-luxe Palm Court in the Plaza Hotel, Marchesa designers Georgina Chapman and Karen Craig staged their first ever runway show that was, as expected, pure fantasy. The move from presentation to runway was a shrewd one for the brand because it's often difficult to imagine their artful red carpet confections moving well. Slipped onto the bodies of, among others, Karen Elson, Karolina Kurkova, and Charlotte Free they did just that.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA

Oscar de la Renta is one of the most reliable designers in New York. He always pleases his Upper East Side customer base without alienating the younger generation. For spring, the label walked that line a bit closer to the side of the new generation of de la Renta wearing partygoers. From the start, when a billowing golden dress with a lace shirt on top came out, it was evident that the designer had shifted slightly towards a more youthful aesthetic. In spite of nods to the seventies and eighties integrated into the collection, it wasn't flatly referential, as we've seen so many do before.
