One of my first vacation souvenirs was a piece of abalone jewelry–a ring–from the Gulf Coast. Pale pink (my favorite color at the time), $3 and small enough to fit my 8-year-old finger, I couldn’t have been happier if it had been from Tiffany. Fast forward a few (ahem) years, I still love the multidimensional, fluid hues of natural abalone jewelry. Depending upon the style and setting, abalone can look simple and casual or dramatic and rich, which makes it perfect for practically any summertime wardrobe. Although it seems to be emerging as a particularly popular mini-trend for summer 2014, abalone jewelry pieces really are very classic. Splurge or save, find a style you love and wear it forever.
