Idina Menzel was the epitome of glam at the Met Gala 2014 in a beaded dress by Donna Karen Atelier, complete with a ruffled train. Before the event, Menzel told her Twitter followers, “Getting ready for #Metball2014 would have a little wine but don’t want to trip up those damn stairs!”
Makeup artist Kristofer Buckle gave her a romantic, yet classic old-Hollywood look to complement the gown and retro side-swept hair. Here, he tells us exactly how he created her gorgeous makeup:
“First, I prepped the skin with vbeauté Lite Up, massaging the product over the entire face and letting it set for a minute or two. I love the texture of this serum; it’s great on skin that needs a little bit of a lift.
Next, I moisturized her skin with vbeauté Buying Time, applying the lotion over her face, neck, décolletage, and shoulders, and gently dabbed vbeauté Eye Never around her eyes. The moisturizers allowed the foundation, blush and eyeshadow to go on a lot easier and helped me achieve a milky, glowing skin tone.
For her eyes, I wanted to focus more on the lash line as opposed to a heavy liquid liner to avoid a pinup look. I used Kiss Individual Eyelashes and a light taupe shadow to grab attention without taking away from the bold lip. I created arched brows by filling them in with a light brow pencil. On the cheekbones, I used a soft, rosy blush, which went on a lot easier thanks to the serum and moisturizer. Finally, I used Laura Mercier Ruby lip liner and MAC lipstick in the Ruby Woo shade for the dramatic lip, as requested by Ms. Wintour.”
