Cate Blanchett at the 86th Annual Academy Awards

While Lupita Nyong’o and Naomi Watts went for more daring, award-worthy looks, it was Cate Blanchett’s nude lips and sheer makeup that struck a chord with me. And while Cate often goes for understated, this look was perfectly pulled off by her makeup artist, Jeanine Lobell. Explaining the look, Jeanine said, “We were inspired by classic, old Hollywood and wanted to give Cate a look that will be timeless.” Here’s how to copy the complete look:

Eyes: Jeanine used Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Eyeshadow Quad #2 Effeto Nudo – opting for the warm taupe shade all over as a base; the deeper taupe on the lid and feathered into the crease to open up the eye; then the light brown  mixed with the deeper taupe applied to the outer crease and center; and the darkest brown as a liner (add a dab of water to the shade to make it gel up). To get her lashes just right, Jeanine used the Troy Surratt Lash Curler with Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Custom Volume Mascara ($27.50).

Face: Jeanine patted SK-II Facial Treatment Essence ($95) into the skin before applying foundation to allow her to use a more lightweight foundation and to ensure it will stay put all night long. Then Jeanine applied Giorgio Armani Sheer Blush in #10 Beige ($44) to the apples of Cate’s cheeks and feathered it out before applying a second coat to ensure she looked like she was glowing from within.

Lips: Jeanine finished the look with Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy Lipstick in #103 ($34) a creamy, beige-y pink lipstick that was perfectly au naturel.
