The Grammy Awards on Sunday were all about heavy metal — not the music (natch) but the fashions. Everyone from Taylor Swift to Ciara hit the red carpet in gleaming, gorgeous, heavily adorned metallic dresses. Our favorite trend of the night, metallics are far easier than you might guess to incorporate into a real-life wardrobe. While I rarely have the opportunity to wear a sequinned or beaded floor-length gown, I own quite a few metallic pieces including shoes, bags and a blouse or two.
Not only are metallics perfect for dressing up even a pair of casual jeans or a T-shirt, but they’re also the ideal neutral. Can’t figure out what color shoes to pair with your multi-colored printed dress? Try a gold or silver pair. Need to dress up your work LBD for an evening out? Try a metallic or beaded clutch.
Inspired to add a little more metallic to my wardrobe, I hit the stores in search of Grammy gold for my real-world, real-girl look. My first stop was Banana Republic where I found three gold tops on the sale rack, each for under $50, and a gorgeous silver and gold necklace for $50.
