Red carpet: Stars glam up for the American Music Awards

The annual American Music Awards took place on Sunday night in Los Angeles. Celebs appeared somewhat reserved on the red carpet, favoring subtle accents like strategic cut-outs and fringe. A handful of stars did up the shock value with shorter hemlines, illusion panels and revealing front keyhole details. Here's a breakdown of some of the more interesting looks from this year's awards.



Christina Aguilera attended the event in a white Maria Lucia Hohan gown with side cut-outs. Lorraine Schwartz gems, a Jimmy Choo Cosma clutch and Christian Louboutin pumps polished off the look. It was a golden embellished Julien Macdonald Fall 2013 dress will front-and-center illusion panel for Taylor Swift on Sunday night. She capped off the look with a pair of Jimmy Choo Madison sandals. Oscar de la Renta's polka dot and floral Spring 2014 strapless gown helped Katy Perry stand out from the crowd. Olympia Le-Tan's Webster's New World Dictionary box clutch and Charlotte Olympia Josephine platform pumps wrapped up the look.



Miley Cyrus was pretty low-key on the red carpet decked out in this white Versus Versace pantsuit. Lorraine Schwartz jewelry and black Saint Laurent pumps served as accessories. Jennifer Hudson was hard to miss at the awards in Christian Dior's orange high-low gown with pink lining. She finished off the look with Charlotte Olympia's platinum platform sandals. Emilio Pucci was behind Nicole Richie's white cut-out gown at the ceremony. A Yves Saint Laurent statement necklace, a House of Harlow 1960 fringe clutch and Casadei pumps completed the look.



Zoe Saldana's one shoulder Roland Mouret printed gown with a swatch of blue satin comes from the designer's Spring 2014 collection. Loree Rodkin's cross cuff and black Jimmy Choo Desire sandals rounded out the look. Naya Rivera made quite a statement in a black Michael Kors long sleeve gown with extended keyhole detail. The actress accessorized with gold bracelets and Jimmy Choo Bronx sandals. Heidi Klum opted for a black Marchesa Spring 2014 lace and fringe creation at the awards. She styled the eye-catching gown with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and black Brian Atwood Melly ankle wrap sandals.
