Now that summer is unofficially over and the fall weather is upon us, we can say goodbye to the days of natural highlights and sun-kissed streaks. Although I like to keep my hair in the red family year round, I have to admit I enjoy getting the natural highlights the sun gives me throughout the summer. So naturally when the summertime is gone, it becomes more difficult to get these highlights without paying an arm and a leg or using a box kit. Now don't get me wrong, I use box hair dye when I'm coloring my whole head, but I have seen too many tragedies when trying to achieve highlights for me to even consider trying it at home. Luckily, after some research I found two products I would recommend that don't come with hair dye.
My first recommendation is the Oribe 24k Gold Pomade ($49). Although the price seems a little steep for a 50 ml container, it is well worth trying out. The pomade is made with pro-vitamin B5, which nourishes and moisturizes while strengthening and improving the condition of your hair, even in extreme humidity. Also, it includes Ultrasil Copolyol-1 that works to condition and add shine to you hair throughout the day. Your hair will be infused with rich-gold highlights the minute you apply it and it will also keep your hair out of you face for the entire day. Best of all, it's Paraben-free, a UV protectant, and color safe.
The next recommendation is the John Frieda Sheer Blonde Highlight Activating Shampoo ($6.49). The first thing that caught my eye about this, besides the price being unbeatable, is the fact that there are different formulas for different hair colors. To me, this is one of the most important things when looking for such a product -- how can a company guarantee there will be the same result for different shades? The product's formula includes honey and oatmeal, which work together gently to remove darkening and dulling buildup. The result, a full spectrum of blonde tones. SImply replace your current shampoo with the highlighting activator and watch your blonde shine through.
