New York Fashion Week coverage provided by theFashionSpot
Last week marked the official kick-off of the NY Fashion Week Spring 2014 collections at Lincoln Center. Here are a few highlights from some of the best shows from Days 1 and 2.
BCBGMAXAZRIA
Kicking off the major New York shows, BCBGMaxAzria showed a stellar lineup done almost exclusively in relaxed silhouettes. While there were a few daring looks - a bondage-print lingerie top worn under a vest, crop tops, a bra top dress and backless tail hem separates - most of the pieces were casual in cut, giving the collection perfect-for-spring ease and movement.
The palette offered up soft lavender, beige, blush, baby blue and white alongside floral watercolor prints and black. Who says you can't wear black in the heat? The embellished black chiffon finale gown was, without a doubt, a standout that could work year-round, as could the floral print embellished black cocktail dresses.

KATE SPADE
Leave it to Kate Spade to make you want a visor...and a lemon print bag...and an oversized sun hat with sunglasses printed on it...and sheer dotted socks to wear WITH pumps. In fact, the brand made all that and much, much more look astoundingly appealing.
Quirky is something Kate Spade has perfected and this season, more so than ever before, the brand managed to do it in an utterly sophisticated way. Balancing Hamptons with city life, the collection included cocktail dresses with structured wide skirts, fitted print pantsuits, emblazoned tops (think gold studded Ciao Baby), bow embellished trousers, watercolor floral separates, and plenty more to please the stylish girl who takes fashion -- but not herself -- seriously.

RAG & BONE
It's official, crop tops are here to stay for spring now that they were once again seen on the runway, this time at David Neville and Marcus Wainwright's Rag & Bone show. In a somewhat unexpected twist, the designers went in a very minimalist direction, which was heavy on 90s and sportswear influences and low on color. Crop tops aside, there were overalls, cropped roomy trousers, oversized blazers, fitted leather jackets and the collection's best pieces: very deep V-neck knits. The lineup stuck with a mostly neutral palette of black and white with a few intermittent pastel moments.
