Pastels were a major trend in 2012 and it's no surprise that they're continuing into 2013. After all, what's not to love about frothy candy-colored shades of lavender, pale yellow, mint green, robin's egg blue and baby pink? If you're accustomed to more saturated colors, fear not, the pastel trend is easier to wear than you might think.
To ease in to the trend, try pairing one pastel piece with something neutral like denim, white, gray or even black. Or simply opt for a single accessory like a bag or earrings for a subtle take on the pastel trend. The more adventurous might try wearing head-to-toe pastels as they all tend to pair really well with each other for a chic colorblocked look. To keep your look from feeling too saccharine sweet, balance ultra-girly silhouettes with something edgy, like a studded shoe, or opt for less feminine pieces like a pastel biker jacket or sleek clutch.
The great news is, you don't have to spend a lot of money to wear the pastel trend. We found a ton of gorgeous pastel pieces at Target which barely put a dent in our spring budget.

From the highly covetable Prabal Gurung for Target collection, this colorblock long-sleeve sweater ($29.99) is a super-wearable way to wear the pastel trend. I'm wearing it with dark denim jeans this winter and with white jeans come spring. I'd even love it with a pair of lavender Mossimo skinny jeans ($27.99), like the ones shown here, for a head-to-toe colorblocked look.
Accessories are a great way to incorporate pastels into your current wardrobe. Druzy Chandlier Earrings ($24.99) in a soft petal pink are a pretty option, but I'm really loving the sleek bone and mint Cory clutch ($29.99) and the Merona Manda studded ballet flat ($19.99), two pieces that prove that pastels look great with a hint of toughness.
Also from the Prabal Gurung collection, this leather jacket ($199.99) might cost a bit more than your typical Target item, but for something with so much style, it's worth it. Finally, the Mossimo lace overlay bodice dress ($49.99) and ponte peplum skirt ($19.99) are both seriously on-trend this season and available in a variety of colors.
