Last week marked the official kick-off of NY Fashion Week Spring 2013 collections at Lincoln Center. Here are a few highlights from some of the best shows from Days 1 and 2:

BCBG MAX AZRIA

Only a few months ago, Max Azria showed an affinity for harnesses with his Fall 2012 collection for Herve Leger; now the designer and his wife Lubov Azria have brought the harness back for their Spring 2013 BCBG line-up. Nearly every look came complete with leather, lace, and/or a harness, but despite what those details may conjure up, the collection veered to the soft and feminine rather than the austere and S&M side.

RICHARD CHAI LOVE

Chai has taken his diffusion line in an increasingly fashion forward direction and it hasn't always panned out, but this season was a beautiful mix of sporty separates (many of which appeared tennis and scuba inspired) with barely-there sexy silhouettes. Particularly memorable were watercolor print bra tops/bra panels with chest area cutouts, which made for alluring tops and mini dresses. Loosely fitted blazers and sporty outerwear were also on point and, more surprsingly, the designer managed to give bedazzled-to-the-max separates and dresses, as well as a denim mini, high appeal.

KATE SPADE

Inspired by Ormond Gigli's "Girls in Windows" (a pretty fantastic photo, no?), Kate Spade's collection was full of bright candy colors and vibrant graphic and pop art prints (literally - one clutch was gleefully emblazoned with the word "pop!"). From summer dresses and twin sets, to collared shirts and print tees, creative director Deborah Lloyd has the feminine lady with a penchant for technicolored brights and pastels covered.
