New York Fashion Week coverage provided by The Fashion Spot
It may be the middle of winter, but New York is already buzzing about what's hot for Fall 2012 with NY Fashion Week in full swing at Lincoln Center. Here are highlights from some of yesterday's best shows:
3.1 PHILLIP LIM
One of the strongest NYFW collections thus far, Phillip Lim presented a fantastic line-up of impeccably cut pieces. Inspired by neo-noir comics, the designer's inspiration came through most notably via capes, collarless coats, sharp slits in fitted tops, a trompe l'oeil bustier on a jumpsuit, paneled blazers, and black and white paneled pieces that appeared to mimic superhero dress. That said, there was nothing remotely costume-y about the utterly sophisticated collection.

MARC JACOBS
Every season, Marc Jacobs closes out day five of New York Fashion Week with what is arguably the most highly anticipated show of the eight day parade of presentations. Makeup was kept minimal with a focus on fresh, radiant skin, no blush, and a heavily lined lower eye given that the hats, by Steven Jones, were framing the face. Hats aside, the major take aways from the show were layering, heavy knits, rich fabrics, and styling not unlike the controlled chaos seen on the red carpet on the likes of Helena Bonham Carter with a slew of outfits that shouldn't work, but do.

DONNA KARAN
No one can drape the way Donna Karan can - the designer could wrap a simple piece of fabric around a model's body and she'd somehow make the seamless fabric look fantastic. This season, Karan's collection was brimming with gorgeous blanket coats and wraps, blanket-like dresses, kilt-like skirts, fringed shawls, and tailored suits. Fall 2012 then progressed into a distinctly menswear-inspired line-up.
