Yesterday marked the official kick-off of NY Fashion Week Fall 2012 collections at Lincoln Center. Here are a few highlights from some of the best shows from Day 1:
BCBGMAXAZRIA
Fantastic color combinations - including unexpected mixes of sheer neutral fabrics with opaque rusty ones - lightweight color blocked fabrics, and fur stoles helped create a slew of long, sleek looks, while pleats on tops, bottoms, and on one-piece looks along with wide leg pants and loosely draped outerwear made for flatteringly elongated silhouettes.
The main takeaway from the show, however, were the fur accents which appeared everywhere from on the sleeves of coats, to clutches, to scarves. Similarly, nearly every look was color blocked, including some jumpsuits, and most were fashioned in neutral and rusty hues giving the collection an overall retro, relaxed 70s feel.

THE HEART TRUTH RED DRESS FASHION SHOW
Wednesday's The Heart Truth® Red Dress fashion show marked the first major New York Fashion Week event and spirits were high. Most of the crowd was wearing red in support of the night's cause, which was to raise awareness for heart disease. This season's show was particularly meaningful, in fact, because it marked the 10th anniversary of the runway event. Among the stand-outs were Minka Kelly in a glimmering floor-sweeping Diane von Furstenberg wrap dress, Patti Stanger in a structured Marc Bower gown, Rebecca Romijn, who opened the show, in a flower accented Marchesa look, and Giselle Blondet who paraded out in a bow accented Oscar de la Renta number.

Yesterday marked the official kick-off of NY Fashion Week Fall 2012 collections at Lincoln Center. Here are a few highlights from some of the best shows from Day 1:
RICHARD CHAI LOVE
With his best friend, designer Phillip Lim, in his place front row, Richard Chai Love kicked off with model Liu Wen taking to the runway in a long, striped menswear-inspired blazer paired with matching pants. The stripes continued, appearing on separates and one-pieces, each in a mix of grays and black. Monochrome loosely draped pants (including corduroy ones) were also featured prominently, along with soft knits, lightweight fabrics with painterly patterns, and cinched-at-the-waist outerwear and dresses.
