Introducing BR Mini baby styles from Banana Republic

Banana Republic regularly designs great limited edition collections. Their latest, however, ventures into some new, thoroughly adorable territory. Launched just this week, the BR Mini collection is a small line of luxurious baby clothing and accessories designed  by Marissa Webb. With a neutral color palette of gray, ivory and charcoal, there’s nothing overly cutesy or obviously gender-specific, which  means it’s a great gift idea for any little one. You can see the entire BR Mini line at bananarepublic.com; my absolute favorites are featured below.

Anytime is a good time to treat yourself to a new bag. Thanks to the release of charitable TOMS bags, however, this is an especially great time. From an aesthetic perspective, there really is something for everyone in the new line…camo canvas backpacks, gorgeous ikat totes, roomy weekenders. The focus of the One for One initiative–maternal health–makes it even better. The purchase of each bag allows TOMS to donate a safe birthing kit to an at-risk pregnant mother in the world and provides training for birth attendants regardless of facility. When doing something good for someone else is this simple, it makes the shopping experience even better. You can read more about TOMS bags and this healthy birth initiative at toms.com.

Windowpane plaid for spring

We may have stored our Christmasy plaids for another yet but we still have every reason to go mad for plaid this spring. Unlike winter’s warm flannel buffalo check and tartan patterns, spring’s hot motif is windowpane plaid. Especially in graphic white/black combinations, this large-scale print is extremely chic rather than homespun. It works beautifully in office-appropriate looks but don’t be afraid to pair it with casual denim ensembles or even with faux (or real) leather for a night out.

Introducing Edun for J. Crew kids’ clothing

Of all the designer collaborations out there, J. Crew’s In Good Company Collection is, in my opinion, one of the absolute best. From Mara Hoffman to Ray-Ban, these collaborations always boast quality and style. The latest–Edun for J. Crew–does not disappoint. The small but cool collection of children’s clothing is inspired by the people and artisans of Africa. Although most of the styles are sold as girls’ pieces, nearly everything is perfectly gender neutral. And because Edun for J. Crew is a Garments for Good collaboration, the sale of these pieces benefit St. Ann’s Orphanage in Kenya.

Charming Easter baskets for upcoming egg hunts

Today may be all about wearing green and feeling lucky, but it’s worth mentioning that Easter is just three weeks away. Before the egg hunts and the Easter Bunny’s arrival, now is the right time to choose kids’ Easter baskets. Although I have always been a fan of traditional baskets and liners, there’s definitely something to be said for the cute totes and storage bins featured below. Go for something fun–like a dinosaur with bunny ears–for a cute twist on the classic basket at their first egg hunt, then do the classic wicker for Easter morning. You can never have too many Easter baskets, right?

Long layers: say hello to maxi cardigans

$

With spring just days away, we’re all dreaming of storing those heavy winter coats. Realistically speaking, we’re still on track for some chilly mornings and evenings, though, so a warm extra layer is absolutely necessary. Some of the coolest toppers for spring are maxi cardigans. Unlike heavier duster sweaters from seasons past, these long sweaters are lightweight and perfect for pairing over tees now and tanks later. What makes maxi cardigans even better is an ability to effortlessly morph from downtown chic to bohemian. Save your prim cardis for another year and opt for a longer, more casual maxi cardigan this season.

If you are looking for the perfect trendy item to incorporate into your spring wardrobe, culottes are it. Acting as the perfect fashion hybrid, this body-skimming style easily substitutes in place of skirts, pants and shorts. And they really can go literally everywhere. Pair culottes with a simple tee and sandals or dress them up with light sweater and heels for a night out. Another major plus: they can be extremely figure-flattering. With or without pleats, at the knee or mid-calf, a little trial and error is bound to let you own this trend for spring.

Spring color trend: vibrant yellow clothing and accessories

Still feeling the winter blahs? Yellow clothing and accessories are exactly what you need! Although Pantone has named mellow Custard as spring’s official yellow hue, you can’t go wrong with any sunny tone. Mustard, lemon, canary, sunshine…pick the shade that becomes you and go with it. And if yellow clothing just isn’t your speed, you can always add a bit of brightness with sandals or a roomy bag. Whether it’s 85 degrees or still averaging just above freezing, vibrant yellow offers just the boost we all need this time of year.

There’s nothing I love more than a pop of color. Prints are fun but pops of bold, rich colors can really take a regular outfit up a notch. This spring take advantage of the bold color trend and invest in a few chic wardrobe staples like a shift dress, button down shirt and skirts in pretty head-turning colors like magenta, poppy red, orange and indigo blue.
